IMAT 2026 Logical Reasoning: Comprehensive Guide

Overview and Strategy

Logical Reasoning tests your procedural thinking and ability to extract data from complex premises.

• Logic over Knowledge: No prior medical or scientific knowledge is needed; all information is contained in the text.
• Time Management: These questions can be “time sinks.” If a problem takes more than 90 seconds, mark it and move on.
• Method: Use sketches, Venn diagrams, and shorthand to map out relationships quickly.

Evidence Assessment: Strengthening or weakening a conclusion based on new evidence or counter-arguments.

Coding & Decoding: Translating symbols into values or identifying the “cipher” used to transform one set of data into another.

Abstract vs. Practical:
Solving “word problems” involving schedules, family trees, or spatial arrangements, as well as abstract symbolic logic.

Numerical Reasoning: Applying basic arithmetic (ratios, percentages, and simple math) to solve logic puzzles or interpret data sets.
